National Wreaths Across America Day
Saturday, December 16, 2023
In Partnership with Wreaths Across America, the Knox County Career Center is asking for sponsors for wreaths to lay on the gravesites of veterans at Mound View Cemetery on December 16, 2023. Our goal is to have as many wreaths as possible. Currently, there are about 1050 veterans buried at the cemetery.
There are two different things that anyone can do to help out. The first thing is to come to Mound View Cemetery on December 16, 1200 (noon), for a brief ceremony, then to lay wreaths. This will typically take about one to two hours. It could take more or less time depending on the number of wreaths and volunteers we have.
The second thing people can do is sponsor wreaths. Wreaths are $17 each. Each person can buy as many or as few as they would like, but the bottom line is, we must have sponsors for wreaths for this to be successful. There are a couple of ways a person can sponsor wreaths:
First, they can go to: www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/OH0017P. This will take them to our "partnered" website with Wreaths Across America and ensure the wreaths go to Moundview Cemetery.
Second: a person can go to the Knox County Career Center web page, scroll down under "events" until they see a flier for Wreaths Across America, click to look at the flier, and then scan the QR code. This will take them to the website.
Please note, that for every wreath sponsored on the website, the JROTC will receive a $5 donation.

KCCC School Counselors, Mrs. Bush & Mrs. Nowicki, recently presented at the All Ohio Counselors Conference. Their session, "Career Tech Counselors Connect," focused on how school counselors can implement classroom lessons, workshops, groups, and individual counseling to meet the needs of all of our students within the unique setting of career tech.
The KCCC Schools District is a proud member of the Chamber of Commerce's Safety Council. We attend monthly meetings and learn about a wide variety of safety issues in running a school that has many similarities to businesses with our career tech labs, our cafeteria, our fleet for transportation, etc. Our Superintendent shared this month about the many ways our district can support businesses and the community services our KCCC High School and KTC students offer.

Chef Russo and our Culinary Arts students held their "soft opening" of the River Room Cafe and Coffee Shop this week. Coffee and baked goods (staff & students) along with lunch (staff) could be ordered. Great customer service opportunity for our students! Everything was delicious!

During the month of October, The Kiwanis Club of Mount Vernon will be collecting gently used coats at over 25 locations in Knox County. The coats will be cleaned by Gault’s Plaza Cleaners and then taken to Interchurch Social Services and the Salvation Army to be distributed to children in need before winter arrives. Since 1987, nearly 19,000 coats have been donated, cleaned, and distributed.
