National Wreaths Across America Day

Currently, there are about 1050 veterans buried at the cemetery.
Come to Mound View Cemetery on December 16 at noon for a brief ceremony and the wreath laying. This will typically take about one to two hours. It could take more or less time depending on the number of wreaths and volunteers we have.

Students in Landscape Design & Management planted Oak and Honey Locust trees at Dan Emmett Elementary recently. Students also planted Honey Locust trees near High Street/Sandusky Street in Mount Vernon.

Mrs. Klein & Mrs. Murphy's CollegeU-Business students held their annual breakfast and gift exchange this week as students finished up classes in December. The students had a great time celebrating together!

Jared Robinson, agent/owner of Optimum Insurance, spoke with students at KCCC recently during math classes. Mr. Robinson talked to students about all types of insurance policies. He focused on automobile and home policies and also shared with the students why it is important to have liability insurance. This was a great educational opportunity for students as they continue to learn about the topic of insurance within the Consumer Math classes at KCCC.

KCCC seniors are able to earn the opportunity to take their career tech skills to businesses and industry during their senior year by meeting academic grade, attendance, behavior, and performance expectations in their career tech lab and academic classes.

CollegeU-Business juniors met at Central Ohio Technical College to complete a downtown Mount Vernon scavenger hunt. The students were broken into groups with the task of visiting 9 businesses. While visiting the local business they asked informational questions about entrepreneurship, marketing, inventory, job responsibilities, and much more.
Special thanks to Central Ohio Technical College, The Grand Hotel, Paragraphs Bookstore, Woodward Opera House, Heralds Appliances, Farmer's Daughter and Boutique, Williams Flower and Wine, and Woolson Spice Company. The students also visited Mt Vernon Apparel, Happy Bean Coffee Shop, Hottie Body Tanning Salon, and Mane Haven Salon.
Students in Mr. Matheney's Consumer Math class learned about Renters & Homeowners Insurance. They discussed the differences between the two, what's covered, what's not covered, filing a claim, and cost-saving tips.

Students who are a part of SkillsUSA are asking for your support in giving to foster families around Knox County through The Forgotten Initiative this year. Students set up a giving tree recently in the cafeteria. There are ornaments on the tree labeled with various items of need (hats, jeans, gloves, etc). Students can purchase the items of need and return them to the giving tree by Monday, December 18th. The items will be donated on Tuesday, December 19th.
Juniors in CollegeU-Business were tasked with developing a team-building training program. Each team had to research ways to effectively and efficiently teach how to be effective team members and teams. The students did a great job with their presentations!
Students in CollegeU-Business earn a highly transferable Associates Degree in Business Management and a high school diploma at the same time.
